Dropme Privacy Notice: Riders and Order Recipients

When you use Dropme, you trust us with your personal data. We're committed to keeping that trust. That starts with helping you understand our privacy practices. This notice describes the personal data ("data") we collect, how it's used and shared, and your choices regarding this data. We recommend that you read this along with our privacy overview, which highlights key points about our privacy practices.

Privacy Policy

I. Overview

Scope

This notice applies when you use Dropme's apps or websites to request or receive products or services, including rides or deliveries.

This notice describes how we collect and use your data if you request or receive products or services through Dropme's apps or websites.

This notice specifically applies if you:

  • Request or receive mobility services, including rides, via your Dropme account (a "Rider").
  • Request or receive food, packages or other products and services for delivery, pickup or return, including via your Drop Eat account or through guest checkout features that allow you to access delivery or pickup services without creating and/or signing into your account (an "Order Recipient").
  • Receive services through Dropme's apps or websites requested by others (a "Guest User"). This includes those who receive ride or delivery services ordered by friends, family members or other individual account owners, including via Dropme Connect. This also includes those who receive Dropme gift cards.

This notice does not describe Dropme's collection and use of your data if you use Dropme to provide (instead of request or receive) services through Dropme's app or websites, including as a driver or delivery person. Dropme's notice describing our collection and use of such data is available here. Those who use Dropme to either request, receive or provide services are referred to as "users" in this notice.

Jurisdiction and Applicable Laws

Our privacy practices are subject to applicable laws in the places in which we operate. The types of data processing that such laws require, allow, or prohibit vary globally. Therefore, if you travel across national, state or other geographic borders, Dropme's data processing practices described in this notice may differ from those in your home country or territory.

Cameroon

While Cameroon does not have a comprehensive data protection law, we follow international best practices and standards for data protection, including principles from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable. You may contact us regarding our privacy practices or to exercise your rights regarding your personal data.

Canada

In Canada, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. You have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of your personal information. You may contact us or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada with concerns regarding our compliance. If you use Dropme in Quebec, you may contact us with questions about Dropme's use of your data for purposes of automated decision making, including regarding the factors considered in connection with such decision, to request correction of any personal data relating to such decisions, and to request review of any such decisions by Dropme personnel.

II. Data Collections and Uses

A. The data we collect

User profile information

We collect information when you create or update your Dropme account. This may include:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Physical address
  • Profile photo
  • Payment information (including payment card numbers, billing address, and bank account information)
  • Government identification numbers (such as social security number, driver's license number, or national ID number, where permitted by law)
  • Birth date
  • Signature
  • Emergency contact information

Background check information

This may include information submitted during the driver application process, such as driver history or criminal record (where permitted by law).

Identity verification

This includes photos of identity documents (such as your driver's license, passport, or national ID card), selfies, and/or government identification numbers. This also includes vehicle registration and insurance information for drivers.

Demographic data

We may collect demographic data about you, including through user surveys. In some countries, we may also receive demographic data about you from third parties.

User content

We collect the information you submit when you contact Dropme customer support, provide ratings or feedback for other users, or otherwise contact Dropme. This may include feedback, photographs or other recordings collected by users.

Travel information

We collect travel information related to our services, including:

  • Pickup location
  • Destination
  • Route information
  • Time and date of service
  • Distance traveled
  • Items ordered and delivery details

Transaction information

We collect transaction information related to your use of our services, including:

  • Type of service requested
  • Details about the service provided
  • Amount charged
  • Payment method used
  • Date and time of transaction

Usage information

We collect information about how you interact with our services. This includes:

  • Access dates and times
  • Features and pages viewed
  • App crashes and other system activity
  • Third-party sites or services used before interacting with our services

Device information

We collect information about the devices you use to access our services, including:

  • Device model
  • Operating system
  • Unique device identifiers
  • Mobile network information
  • IP address
  • Wi-Fi information
  • Bluetooth signals

Location data

We collect precise or approximate location data from your device when you use our services, including when the app is running in the foreground or background. We also collect this information when you enable location services through your device settings or give us permission to collect this information. We use this data to enhance your use of our services, including to:

  • Match you with drivers and delivery partners
  • Enable navigation
  • Track the progress of your ride or delivery
  • Improve pickups, drop-offs, and customer service
  • Enhance the safety and security of our services

Communications data

We enable users to communicate with each other and with Dropme through our apps, websites, and other services. For example, we enable drivers and riders, and delivery partners and recipients, to call or text each other (in some countries, without disclosing their telephone numbers to each other). To provide this service, Dropme receives some information regarding the calls or texts, including the date and time of the call or text and the content of the communications. Dropme may also use this information for customer support services (including to resolve disputes between users), for safety and security purposes, to improve our services, and for analytics.

Address book or contact list

If you permit Dropme to access the address book on your device through the permission system used by your mobile platform, we may access and store names and contact information from your address book to facilitate social interactions through our services and for other purposes described in this notice or at the time of consent or collection.

Marketing and advertising data

Dropme may collect information about you from third parties to provide advertising, services, or content that may be of interest to you. This may include:

  • Your preferences or interests
  • Demographic information
  • Online behavior and advertising identifiers

Other data

We may also collect other information that you provide to us, such as when you fill in forms, respond to surveys, or use other features of our services.

B. How we use data

Provide services

Dropme uses data to provide, personalize, maintain, and improve our services. This includes using data to:

  • Create and update your account
  • Process rides, deliveries, and other services
  • Calculate prices and process payments
  • Match available drivers and delivery partners with users
  • Track and share the progress of rides or deliveries
  • Enable features that allow you to share information with other people, such as when you submit a compliment about a driver, refer a friend to Dropme, split fares, or share your ETA
  • Personalize your experience based on your preferences, settings, and past activity

Safety and security

We use data to help maintain the safety, security, and integrity of our services. This includes:

  • Verifying users' identities and accounts
  • Screening drivers and delivery partners before enabling their use of our services and at subsequent intervals, including through reviews of background checks where permitted by law
  • Detecting, preventing, and combating fraudulent or unsafe activity
  • Investigating and resolving incidents, accidents, and insurance claims
  • Monitoring and improving our safety features

Customer support

Dropme uses the information we collect (including recordings of customer support calls after notice to you and with your consent) to provide customer support, including to:

  • Respond to your questions, concerns, and requests
  • Investigate and address your concerns
  • Monitor and improve our customer support responses

Research and development

We may use data we collect for testing, research, analysis, product development, and machine learning to improve the user experience. This helps us improve and enhance the safety and security of our services, develop new features and products, and facilitate insurance and finance solutions.

Marketing and advertising

Dropme uses data to market our services, and those of our partners. This may include:

  • Sending you communications we think will be of interest to you, including information about products, services, promotions, news, and events
  • Personalizing, measuring, and improving our advertising
  • Third-party advertising

Legal purposes

We use data to address claims and disputes relating to your use of our services, and as allowed or required by applicable law. We also use data to:

  • Comply with law enforcement requests
  • Comply with regulatory requirements
  • Respond to legal process
  • Protect the rights and property of Dropme and others

We use automated processes to provide our services. This includes:

Matching available drivers and delivery partners with users

We use data to match available drivers and delivery partners with users requesting services. Factors that we may consider include:

  • Proximity, availability, and destination
  • User ratings and preferences
  • Service type requested
  • Vehicle type and capacity

Dynamic pricing

We use data to calculate and provide you with prices for rides and deliveries. We use factors such as:

  • Base fare
  • Distance and estimated time
  • Demand for services in the area
  • Traffic conditions
  • Surge pricing when demand is high

Fraud detection

We use data to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security threats. This includes:

  • Verifying user identities
  • Detecting fraudulent transactions
  • Preventing account takeovers
  • Monitoring for suspicious activity

Safety

We use data to help ensure the safety of our services. This includes:

  • Background checks for drivers and delivery partners
  • Safety ratings and reviews
  • Incident detection and response
  • Real-time monitoring of rides and deliveries

We use cookies and similar technologies to collect and store information about your use of our services. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit our website or use our app.

Essential cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website.

These cookies help us understand how visitors use our website by collecting and reporting information anonymously.

These cookies are used to deliver advertisements that are more relevant to you and your interests.

E. Data sharing and disclosure

Some of Dropme's products, services, and features require that we share data with other users or at your request. We may also share data with our affiliates, subsidiaries, and business partners, for legal reasons or in connection with claims or disputes.

With other users

We share some data with other users, including:

  • Information about riders provided to drivers, including name, rating, pickup and destination locations, and contact information
  • Information about drivers provided to riders, including name, photo, rating, vehicle information, and contact information
  • Information about orders and deliveries shared between order recipients and delivery partners

With service providers and business partners

Dropme provides data to vendors, consultants, marketing partners, research firms, and other service providers or business partners. These include:

  • Payment processors and facilitators
  • Cloud storage providers
  • Analytics providers
  • Marketing partners and advertising platforms
  • Data analytics providers
  • Customer support providers

In connection with business transfers

If Dropme undertakes or is involved in any merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or insolvency event, then we may sell, transfer, or share some or all of our assets, including your information. In this event, we will notify you before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

With legal authorities

We may share your data if we believe it's required by applicable law, regulation, operating agreement, legal process or governmental request, or where the disclosure is otherwise appropriate due to safety or similar concerns. This may include sharing data with law enforcement officials, government authorities, airports (if located at an airport), or other third parties as necessary to enforce our Terms of Service, user agreements, or other policies; to protect Dropme's rights or property or the rights, safety, or property of others; or in emergency situations.

With your consent

We may share your information other than as described in this notice if we notify you and you consent to the sharing.

F. Data retention and deletion

Dropme retains user data for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. This means that we retain different categories of data for different periods of time depending on the type of data, the category of user to whom the data relates, and the purposes for which we collected the data.

Retention periods

  • We retain user profile information (name, email, phone number) and account settings data for as long as you maintain your Dropme account.
  • We retain transaction information for a period of 7 years after the date of the transaction, as required by law in some jurisdictions.
  • We retain location data, if collected, for a maximum of 7 days, unless we are required to retain it for longer periods by law.
  • We retain communications data (such as customer support communications) for up to 3 years after the date of the communication.
  • We retain marketing and advertising data for up to 2 years after your last interaction with our services.

Deletion

You may request deletion of your account at any time through the Settings section in the Dropme app, or through our website. Following such a request, Dropme deletes the data that it is not required to retain for purposes of regulatory, tax, insurance, litigation, or other legal requirements. For example, we retain location, device, and usage data for these purposes for a minimum of 7 years; while we retain such data, we may also use it for purposes of safety, security, fraud prevention and detection, and research and development. In certain circumstances, we may be unable to delete your account, such as if there is an outstanding credit on your account or an unresolved claim or dispute. Upon resolution of the issue preventing deletion, we will delete your account as described above.

After you delete your account, we may retain certain information in an aggregated and anonymized format.

III. Choice and Transparency

You have many choices about how your data is collected, used, and shared.

Access and portability

You can request a copy of your personal data by contacting us. You can also request that we provide your data in a portable format.

Correction and deletion

You can edit the name, phone number, email address, payment method, and photo associated with your account through the Settings menu in the Dropme app. You can also request that we delete your account and personal data at any time.

Marketing opt-outs

You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from us by following the instructions in those communications or by adjusting your preferences in the Settings section of the Dropme app. If you opt out, we may still send you non-promotional communications, such as those about your account, our ongoing business relations, our services, or our ongoing privacy practices.

Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the Settings section in the Dropme app, or through our website. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data, subject to certain exceptions set forth in our data retention section.

Location data

You can prevent our collection of location data through your device settings. However, if you do so, some features of our services may not function properly.

Background checks

For drivers and delivery partners, we collect background check information, including criminal records, where permitted by law. You can contact us if you have questions about our background check policies.

Device permissions

Most mobile platforms (iOS, Android) have defined certain types of device data that apps cannot access without your consent, and these platforms have different permission systems for obtaining your consent. The iOS platform will alert you the first time our app wants permission to access certain types of data and will let you choose whether or not to grant permission. The Android platform will notify you of the permissions that our app seeks before you first use the app, and your use of the app constitutes your consent.

Profile information

You can edit the information associated with your account through the Settings menu in the Dropme app.
